    PURPOSE OF LIST

By joining this list, you express your interest in promoting safe, healthy, off leash dog play in Manhattan. Posts addressing this and related subjects as well as any dog topics are welcome. The communicty asks that you post any questions that relate to this topic - and that answers are constructive rather that accusational.
Digest versus Regular subscription: Digest subscription means you will receive daily one post which contains a number of different emails, thereby reducing the volume of mail in your inbox. The alternative is to receive each email as it is posted - a more "real time" experience.

    GENERAL RULES

Message Formats - This list supports plain text messages ONLY.

Attachments - are NOT supported by this list. Instead of posting attachments, we ask that you send these privately to those who wish to receive them or you can post the attachment elsewhere on the Internet and send a URL to the list.

Netiquette - is outlined below and must be followed. Violations of Netiquette can ruin the tone of a list and will not be tolerated on Manhattan Dog Chat. A generic but useful Netiquette document can be found at http://www.dtcc.edu/cs/rfc1855.html as well for your review.

    ADVERTISING RULES

    1. In an attempt to balance useful information (i.e. when a training class is starting) and allowing the list to become cluttered with free advertising, the following guidelines apply. Business related posts are allowed if:
    - They are single announcements of training classes
    - They are single announcements of dog friendly events
    - They are single announcements of dog friendly housing.
These posts should be dry, non-adjective laden, public service-like descriptions of the offering.

    2. Advertising in signature files is acceptable when kept to an absolute minimum. A pet related business owner can indicate the name of their business one method of contact (i.e. URL, e-mail, phone or address). In other words, signatures will be no longer than three lines: Name, Business name, Contact method.

    3. Generally, when someone asks for a recommendation for a dog related business, replies should be sent to that person directly off list. Pet related business owners *may not* reply on list. List members, who have no financial connection with a business, may make recommendations to the list.

    4. Business owners using the list will be held to the highest standard of integrity with regard to their list usage. Prohibited activities for business owners include:
    - Misleading others with regard to the operations of your business
    - Posting under a name other than your own
    - Harvesting email addresses from the list for commercial use
Violations will result in your immediate and unconditional removal from the list.

    NETIQUETTE

Subject Lines - When posting please provide clear and specific subject headings. Please change the subject line when topics change. This is especially important for those who receive the list in DIGEST format as the subject line for all digests is topin indifferent.

Quoting Other Posts - When quoting another person, edit out whatever isn't directly applicable to your reply. Don't let your email software automatically quote the entire body of messages you are replying to. Take the time to edit any quotations down to the minimum necessary to provide context for your reply. Nobody likes reading a long message in quotes for the third or fourth time, only to be followed by a one line response, like, "Yeah, me too."

Flaming - Constant, total agreement is impossible. We do not expect or even desire all of our members to agree at all times. However, it is important that contributors refrain from using inflammatory language or making personal attacks. Disruptive subscribers will be blocked from contributing to the list if they fail to heed this admonition.

Signatures - It is asked that all users of Manhattan Dog Chat end their posts with some "signature" identifying who they are. Your signature may be as simple as your name, but it is required that you include at least that. If you wish to post to the chat, it is only proper for others to be able to address you in their replies.

Reviews of seminars, training methods, books, videos and anything else that is geared toward topics on this list are encouraged. If you have negative feedback, please keep the comments based on the methods, ideas, etc. and not on the author or person responsible for the product. E.g., Don't say "x" trainer is abusive. You can disagree with the techniques or ideas, but personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Privacy - Posts to ManhattanDogChat@topica.com are considered private. Do not make unauthorized copies of those message or forward them to others outside the group without first obtaining permission of the author.

The list administrator will have final say on any of these issues. Every attempt will be made by the list administrator to maintain an orderly chat in accordance to these rules. For non-compliance, removal from the list may occur at the sole discretion of the list administrator.
